The Synthetics business at Goldman Sachs, a key growth area for the firm, is undergoing a transformational change. It is a complex and nuanced global business, operating with low latency at scale, requiring significant technological investment to make our platform the best in class. The Post Execution Synthetics Engineering team is at the forefront of this effort. Our team develops the systems that automate the booking and lifecycle of synthetics and equity derivative products within the front office trading risk system. We are a small, highly innovative team, which has full ownership of our systems.

Our System Reliability Engineers have full access to the codebase to enable them to triage issues, as well as being empowered to fix the root causes. Aside from production management, we are involved in project work: enhancing, extending, and simplifying our production environment along with small projects to meet immediate business needs. We have split responsibilities with supporting the business and delivering on strategic projects.

Our technology stack consists of Java, Slang (proprietary scripting language), AngularJS, MongoDb and SecDb (proprietary NoSql database) run on an internal cloud. A willingness to learn new languages, technologies and the business will be key to your success in this role.

    • On a daily basis, work closely with our users and take ownership for the resolution of issues they face.
    • Manage incidents and take any follow-up actions necessary to ensure system stability.
    • Enhance the production platform through participating in the design, development, testing and documentation of our systems.
    • Work closely with the business, software developers and other engineers globally on a daily basis.

    • Superb troubleshooting skills.
    • Ability to take responsibility, work independently and coordinate with the team.
    • Professional experience coding in any object oriented or functional languages e.g. Java, Javascript, Python, C#, Scala, C++ and eagerness to develop this further and learn, as reading and understanding code is required for this position.
    • Self-motivation to learn about new businesses and ownership of support issues and development projects.
    • Great communication skills – as daily coordination with our global team is essential.
    • Ability to stay calm and maintain perspective under pressure.
