The Corporate Communications team within the Executive Office of Goldman Sachs supports and enhances the firm's businesses, culture, brand and reputation. The head of corporate communications for Germany, Austria and Switzerland is a key position within the EMEA Corporate Communications team, working as a senior advisor to business leaders on strategic communications while interacting with external parties, primarily media, on behalf of the firm.

Whether communicating with employees, managing our brand, or articulating our strategy to investors and analysts, our work directly impacts how the firm is viewed by a variety of crucial stakeholders. You'll be part of a team of excellent communicators who are comfortable working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.


Responsibilities and Qualifications


The role will support all aspects of the global corporate communications team’s activities including external, internal and brand and content.  Our goal is to provide our people, clients, shareholders, the media and the broader public with information about the breadth of our global efforts, highlight our focus on delivering sustainable, long-term returns for our shareholders and demonstrate our commitment to making an impact on the communities where we live and work and on society more broadly. The head of Corporate Communications, Germany, Austria and Switzerland will work closely with colleagues across the EMEA Corporate Communications team, partnering with other departments in the Executive Office, and assisting teams across the firm with their communication efforts. Specifically, you will be expected to:


  • Drive the strategy and execution of proactive media engagement programs for key business areas in your markets
  • Provide strategic communications guidance to senior business leaders in specific business areas
  • Work with colleagues across the firm on reputational issues and on important strategic projects
  • Take a leadership role in efforts to develop messaging around communications priorities
  • Find innovative ways and develop creative storylines to inform internal and external stakeholders about the firm
  • Create content, e.g., research, write, edit and review articles for GSWeb, the firm’s intranet, contribute to firmwide newsletter, and pitch relevant stories to the media
  • Provide oversight, e.g., edit, review and approve communications according to firmwide style, assist with signage/internal marketing campaigns across Goldman Sachs campuses, file and archive key communications
  • Assist with the conception, creation and presentation of social media marketing campaigns leveraging the firm’s thought leadership, recruiting and philanthropic initiatives
  • Support additional projects as they arise, e.g., support for cross-functional communications initiatives, briefing memos and presentations in advance of meetings with internal leaders or other stakeholders, etc.


Key attributes and qualifications


  • Minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience, earned in the European media environment
  • A track record as a strategic advisor to senior managers together with a demonstrable ability to manage complex media issues
  • An established network of trusted relationships among members of the financial media
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for the financial services marketplace and the products and processes of the firm
  • Broad awareness of current events, industry trends and the regulatory environment
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines, often under time pressure, while maintaining high standards and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to cultivate relationships across a firm’s divisions and business lines
  • A well-organised team player with a high degree of integrity and emphasis on confidentiality
  • Enthusiastic – high energy, team-oriented and a “can do” approach
  • Creativity and an ability to take ideas from inception through to delivery
  • German language skills are essential
